How DKSCORE calculates a Vedic birth chart

Every chart on DKSCORE is computed in the sidereal zodiac, the frame used throughout Vedic astrology.

Western horoscopes are normally tropical: they fix 0° Aries to the spring equinox, which drifts against the stars. Sidereal fixes the rashis to the constellations instead. The practical consequence for a reader is direct — if you have always read yourself as a tropical Cancer, your Moon sign here may well be Gemini. That is the two systems disagreeing by design, not an error.

Charts are calculated by our own system rather than assembled by hand, and the same birth details always produce the same chart. The calculation is deterministic: nothing about a placement is generated, sampled or inferred by a model.

Three inputs: date of birth, time of birth, and place. The place is resolved to coordinates and a timezone, because a chart is a statement about the sky at one point on the Earth's surface — the same instant produces different houses in Chennai and in Delhi.

Stored alongside every chart

Each planet also carries its nakshatra and pada — the lunar mansion and quarter it occupies.

A placement alone does not say how well a planet can act. These are stored per chart as fields, which is what makes them searchable across many charts rather than only readable in one.

A varga subdivides each sign and re-maps the result, producing a chart that examines one department of life at higher resolution. DKSCORE calculates and stores 20 of them per chart — the complete classical Shodashavarga, all 16, plus 4 beyond it.

Timing runs on the Vimshottari dasha, the 120-year cycle keyed to the Moon's nakshatra at birth. Each planet rules a period, and those periods nest.

We compute and store the sequence with its start and end dates rather than deriving it on demand, so the dasha in force at any date in a life is a lookup.

Birth data is only as good as its source. We use the Lois Rodden rating system — the standard classification used by astrologers worldwide — which codes every record by where the information came from and whether primary documentation exists. The rating shown on a profile is the rating of its birth data, not a judgement of the person.

For serious chart work, practitioners prioritise AA and A. We show the lower ratings rather than hiding them: speculative or conflicting data leads to false conclusions, and you can only weigh a reading if you know what it rests on. Profiles with no rating at all show no rating — we don't guess one.

For celebrity profiles, birth date, time and place are sourced from publicly available reference databases and cross-checked against published interviews and verified biographies.

Insight sections — the per-profile FAQ, the Astrology Insights blocks and yearly outlooks — are drafted from chart data using a structured template, then reviewed by astrologers on our panel before publishing.

Pilot profiles show the reviewing astrologer's name near the top of the page. Insights are revised as our astrologers refine them; the Last Updated date on a profile reflects the most recent editorial pass on that specific profile.
