Who is Bird Florence?

Canadian broadcaster, journalist, and politician best remembered for her work as chair of the Royal Commission on the Status of Women. She was a member of the Senate of Canada from 23 March 1978 until 15 January 1983. In 1971, she was invested as a Companion of the Order of Canada. In 1983, she was named a recipient of the Governor Generals Awards in Commemoration of the Persons Case. In 1928 she married journalist John Bird. They moved to Canada in 1931.
