American singer, songwriter, record producer, and instrumentalist who was a two-time Grammy Award-winner and a two-time Academy Award nominee for Best Original Song. He was voted the Best New Artist in 1981. He moved to Los Angeles, California in the mid-70s as a member of Revelation Funk before his debut as a solo artist on the R&B circuit. He spend two years on tour and did his first recording with Ray Charles on keyboard and singing background vocals. He played on the rhythm section for the Coasters on Dick Clarks Oldies Package tours. He sang demos and back-up vocals, toured Japan, and worked as a musical director. Ingram sang at the Academy Awards and at the Soul Train Awards. Married, he had five kids. Ingram died on 29 January 2019 from brain cancer, aged 66, at his home in Los Angeles.
