American business executive, world bank president and government official who served as the Secretary of Defense from 1961 to 1968 during the Bay of Pigs and the Vietnam War. McNamara served as a financial analyst, comptroller and the first ever non-family president of Ford Motor Company. After his success in the U.S. automobile industry, he presided over the U.S. Department of Defense under his good friend President John F. Kennedy. Under the Johnson administration, McNamara continued to send in more troops to the Vietnam conflict. His influence was so great that the Vietnam War was unofficially called "McNamaras War." As early as 1965, he concluded that the struggle would end in failure and U.S. policies concerning the conflict were "terribly wrong." Ironically, in 1982 he was awarded the Einstein Peace Prize in recognition of an article he had co-written proposing that the U.S. adopt a no-first-use policy for nuclear weapons. McNamara grew up in San Francisco and received his education at the local public schools in nearby Piedmont, CA. His father was an executive of a wholesale shoe company. In high school, McNamara excelled, always turning homework in promptly. He attended the University of California at Berkeley and graduated in 1937. In 1939, he received his graduate degree in business from Harvard. He taught at Harvard for the next three years. In 1943, during WW II, McNamara received a captains commission in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He worked on developing the Armys logistical systems. Joining Ford Motor Corporation In 1946, he rescued the ailing Ford Company with the new management techniques he had learned from Harvard Business School. His brilliance as a number-cruncher became legendary in the business world. Ambitious and self-confident, he went on with the aid of loyal mentors to capture the top position at Ford; however, only seven weeks after gaining the post of president at Ford in 1960, he gave up his six-figure salary to join JFKs cabinet. Running the Pentagon, he systematized the armed services as he had Ford in the private industry sector. When Johnson became president, he stayed on and became his trusted advisor. His talents and skills were in the modern, scientific management techniques. Senator Barry Goldwater referred to McNamara as an "IBM machine on legs." While his success was in managing numbers, his downfall was in handling people and institutions. In March 1965, under the Johnson administration, the first American ground troops, 3,500 Marines entered Vietnam. Despite the protests of Joint Chiefs of Staff General Maxwell Taylor and General H.K. Johnson, McNamara overrode their recommendations and sent another 200,000 troops to Vietnam in June 1965. In November 1966, he advocated and sent another 200,000 troops and in 1967, another 200,000. He refused to be contradicted by others and his rigidity proved fatal for the regard of his colleagues. He was arrogant and aloof and when convinced of his own righteousness, ruled by fear, continuing to stick to his position no matter the consequences. In 1968, he left the Pentagon and became the president of the World Bank. In the aftermath of his departure, people viewed McNamara as a victim, not the perpetrator of a tragedy that cost the lives of many Americans and Vietnamese and the disturbance of the countrys national unity. At the World Bank, he tried to eradicate poverty in the third world. He continued his distant manner, separRead less

In Vedic astrology, the ascendant or "lagna" is a critical point in a natal chart, as it sets the stage for the entire horoscope. When the natal lagna is in Gemini, it brings a blend of intellectualism, adaptability, and communication skills. Gemini, ruled by Mercury, is a sign associated with curiosity, learning, and versatility. Individuals with this ascendant are often quick-witted, sociable, and eager to exchange ideas. The Ardra nakshatra, which falls within Gemini, adds a layer of intensity and transformation to the personality. Ruled by Rahu, Ardra is symbolized by a teardrop, signifying both sorrow and renewal. Individuals with their lagna in Ardra are often deep thinkers and are drawn to profound subjects. They may experience significant life changes that push them toward personal growth and transformation. Mercury, the lagna lord, placed in the 12th house in Taurus and within the Rohini nakshatra, plays a pivotal role in shaping the life path. The 12th house is traditionally associated with themes like loss, isolation, and spirituality, but also with foreign travel and subconscious influences. When the ascendant lord occupies this house, it can indicate a strong inclination toward introspection, spirituality, or working behind the scenes. There may be challenges related to communication or expressing oneself openly, leading to a preference for solitude or working in isolated environments. Positioned in Taurus, Mercury finds stability and a practical approach to communication and learning. Taurus, an earth sign ruled by Venus, adds a love for beauty and a preference for tangible results. Rohini nakshatra, ruled by the Moon, enhances creativity and emotional depth. This placement can indicate a rich inner world, a love for art, and the ability to articulate emotions effectively, though often in private settings. Overall, this combination suggests an individual who is intellectually inclined and introspective, with a penchant for deep, transformative experiences. They may find fulfillment in artistic or spiritual pursuits, often exploring these in solitude or away from the limelight.

Let's break down these elements to understand their combined influence: 1. **Sun as the 3rd Lord**: The Sun governs the 3rd house in a Gemini ascendant chart, which relates to communication, courage, younger siblings, and short travels. It signifies how an individual expresses themselves, takes initiatives, and interacts with their immediate environment. 2. **Placement in the 12th House**: The 12th house is associated with isolation, expenditure, foreign lands, and spirituality. It often indicates areas of life where one might experience losses or need to let go. In Vedic astrology, the placement of Mercury as the 1st (Ascendant) and 4th Lord in the 12th house in Taurus, within the Rohini Nakshatra, and conjunct with the Sun, presents a complex astrological scenario for a Gemini Ascendant. **Mercury as Ascendant and 4th Lord:** For a Gemini Ascendant, Mercury is both the ruler of the 1st house, which influences the self, personality, and overall life approach, and the 4th house, which governs home, mother, inner peace, and properties. These dual roles emphasize Mercury’s significance in shaping the personal and domestic facets of life for Gemini natives. **12th House Placement:** The 12th house is associated with losses, expenses, foreign lands, spirituality, and isolation. Mercury's placement here can indicate a propensity for introspection and a strong inclination towards spiritual or foreign pursuits. This placement may also suggest challenges in maintaining consistent domestic peace and may lead to expenditures related to home and property. **Taurus Sign and Rohini Nakshatra:** Taurus is an earth sign ruled by Venus, indicating practicality and a focus on material comforts. The Rohini Nakshatra, known for its creative and nurturing qualities, can imbue Mercury with imaginative and artistic tendencies. This combination may lead to a desire to seek comfort and beauty in foreign lands or through spiritual practices. There might be a strong attachment to possessions, and financial prudence becomes essential. **Conjunction with the Sun:** The conjunction of Mercury and the Sun forms a Budha Aditya Yoga, which can enhance intellectual capabilities and communication skills. However, since this conjunction occurs in the 12th house, it may lead to a tendency to keep one’s thoughts and plans private or to work behind the scenes. This aspect might also indicate that the native’s ego (Sun) and intellect (Mercury) are focused on selfless service or spiritual growth. Overall, this astrological setup suggests a life path that combines intellectual pursuits with spiritual growth, possibly involving foreign travel or residence. There may be challenges in balancing personal desires and domestic responsibilities, but the influence of the Sun and Mercury can provide the native with the intellectual acumen and communication skills to navigate these complexities effectively.

In Vedic astrology, the placement of Saturn as both the 8th and 9th lord in the 1st house is a significant configuration, especially for a Gemini ascendant. When Saturn occupies the 1st house in Gemini, it brings a blend of its inherent qualities—discipline, structure, and introspection—into the individual's personality, as the 1st house represents the self and identity. The Gemini sign, known for its intellectual, communicative, and adaptable nature, can temper Saturn's seriousness, making the native more thoughtful and grounded in their communication. Being in the Punarvasu Nakshatra, which is ruled by Jupiter, Saturn's effects are nuanced. Punarvasu is associated with renewal and growth. Thus, Saturn here might denote a journey of learning through repeated experiences, fostering resilience and a philosophical outlook towards life's challenges, as it governs both transformational (8th house) and dharmic (9th house) energies. The conjunction with Venus adds a layer of complexity. Venus, the lord of the 5th and 12th houses for Gemini ascendant, represents creativity, love, and pleasure.
