Yoga Calculator See which yogas and doshas your birth chart forms

A yoga in Vedic astrology is a set placement of planets in the birth chart, such as Jupiter in a kendra from the Moon (Gaja Kesari) or Mars in its own sign in a kendra (Ruchaka). This calculator checks your chart against DKSCORE's named yoga and dosha rules and shows, for each one, whether your chart has it and why.

Enter your birth details

Use the time from your birth certificate if you have it. Most rules count houses from your Lagna, which needs an accurate birth time.

Local clock time at the place of birth.

Your birth details are used only to calculate this chart. They are not saved to an account or added to the page address. This tab remembers them for the other calculators and forgets them when you close it.

What the calculator shows

Everything comes from one chart calculation and the same yoga rules DKSCORE uses for the charts on its site.

  • Yogas present

Each yoga your chart has, with the planets and the houses that form it, for example Mars in the 10th house for Ruchaka.

  • Doshas present

Each dosha your chart has, from the same rules: Angarak, Guru Chandal, the four Grahan pairings, Shakata, Dur, Shrapit and Kaal Sarp.

  • Every rule, with a reason

All the rules in groups, each with its definition and a line saying why your chart meets it or not, so a 'no' is as clear as a 'yes'.

  • Rules under review

Shrapit and Kaal Sarp follow the most common published rule and are marked while DKSCORE's astrologers review them.

  • Kaal Sarp in detail

The Kaal Sarp row links to the Kaal Sarp calculator, which shows the type, the side of the Rahu–Ketu axis and the planets outside it.

  • Your Lagna chart

Your birth chart in North Indian or South Indian style, so you can see the placements behind each yoga.

Why the birth time matters

Most yoga rules count houses from the Lagna: Pancha Mahapurusha yogas need a planet in a kendra (the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house), and Raja and Dhana yogas look at the lords of particular houses. The Lagna changes sign about every two hours, so a birth time that is off by an hour can move every house.

The Moon moves about 13° a day, so rules counted from the Moon, such as Gaja Kesari and Shakata, can also change when the Moon is near the edge of a sign. Rules that only ask whether two planets share a sign, such as Guru Chandal or the Grahan pairings, rarely depend on the birth time.

How DKSCORE checks for yogas

  • Positions from your chart

DKSCORE calculates your chart in the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa for your date, time and place of birth, with whole-sign houses from the Lagna.

  • DKSCORE's named rules

Each yoga is a named rule, the same definitions DKSCORE uses to tag the charts on its site. The calculator states each rule next to the result.

  • Named Raja yogas only

The Raja yoga group holds the named rules listed (Rajju, Varishtha, Sreenatha, Vijaya). The general rule of a kendra lord joining a trikona lord is not checked yet, and neither are Kemadruma or Pitru dosha.

  • No cancellation rules

The calculator says whether each rule's placement is in your chart. It does not apply cancellation (bhanga) rules or weigh one yoga against another; that is for an astrologer reading your whole chart.

FAQ

Yoga calculator: questions and answers

What is a yoga in a birth chart?
A yoga is a defined combination of planets in the birth chart: planets in particular signs or houses, joined in one sign, or placed in a set relation to each other or to the Moon. Classical texts name hundreds. Some, such as the Pancha Mahapurusha and Raja yogas, are called favourable; others, called doshas, are read as difficult placements.
How does this calculator check for yogas?
DKSCORE calculates your chart (sidereal zodiac, Lahiri ayanamsa, whole-sign houses) and checks it against its named yoga and dosha rules. For example, for a birth in New Delhi on 1 January 1990 at 10:30, Mars is in Vrishchika, its own sign, in the 10th house, a kendra, so the chart has Ruchaka Yoga; Jupiter is in the 5th sign from the Moon, not a kendra from it, so there is no Gaja Kesari Yoga. The result shows these lines for your own chart.
Which yogas and doshas does it check?
The five Pancha Mahapurusha yogas (Hamsa, Bhadra, Ruchaka, Sasa, Malavya); Gaja Kesari, Chandra-Mangala and Adhi yoga from the Moon; Budhaditya; the Lakshmi and Vasumitra Dhana yogas; the Rajju, Varishtha, Sreenatha and Vijaya Raja yogas; and the doshas Angarak, Guru Chandal, Grahan (Sun or Moon with Rahu or Ketu), Shakata, Dur, Shrapit and Kaal Sarp.
Why does it not show a general Raj Yoga?
The general Raj Yoga, the lord of a kendra joining the lord of a trikona, has several versions: by conjunction, by aspect or by exchange of signs, with different aspects counted. DKSCORE's astrologers are settling which version to use, and it can be added once they do. Until then it checks the named Raja yogas listed.
Why are Shrapit and Kaal Sarp marked as under review?
They follow the most common published rule: Shrapit is Saturn in the same sign as Rahu, and Kaal Sarp is all seven planets on one side of the Rahu–Ketu axis. Traditions differ on the details, for example whether Saturn aspected by Rahu also counts as Shrapit, so DKSCORE's astrologers are reviewing them. The other rules are the definitions DKSCORE already uses for the charts on its site.
Does a dosha in my chart mean something bad will happen?
No. The calculator says whether a placement is in your chart, nothing more. Astrologers read a dosha together with the rest of the chart, including placements that can reduce its effect and the running dasha. It does not predict events.
Why does another calculator show different yogas?
Yoga definitions vary between texts and software. Some use a different version of a rule, count houses from cusps rather than whole signs, apply cancellation rules, or use a different ayanamsa. A different birth time or time zone changes the chart as well. This calculator states each rule it uses, so you can compare.
Do I need my exact birth time?
Yes. Most rules count houses from the Lagna, which changes sign about every two hours, and some count from the Moon, which moves about 13° a day. Use the time on your birth certificate if you have it.
Are my birth details saved?
Your details are used only to calculate the result. They are not saved to an account or profile, and they are never added to the page address or sent to analytics.

Have your yogas read by a Vedic astrologer.

How much a yoga or a dosha matters depends on the strength of the planets involved, the running dasha and the rest of the chart. An astrologer reads it all together.
